I'm not sure if I've ever been more disappointed in a "heroine" (and I use that term lightly) in my 40+ years reading romantic fiction. I read the Dare River series first and loved it so I started the Dare Valley series. After reading the first 2 books and loving them both (although Peggy pissed me off in the second book) I went ahead and bought the rest of the series. I went into Mac and Peggy's story with all kinds of faith that the author could make her lovable. BIG MISTAKE!!! The author failed miserably in showing any redeeming qualities in Peggy at all... Let alone help us understand why or how a man like Mac could fall in love with her. She's crabby... on a good day... she is selfish, vindictive, close minded, unforgiving, cold, bitter, judgemental to a whole new level, emotionally retarded... she was maybe at a 14 year old level emotionally. The way that she continually put her judgements and neuroticisms ahead of her son's well being turned my stomach. The entire town of Dare welcomed her and her son with open arms yet she continued to push people away. Tanner, Meredith, Jill, Brian & Arthur all helped her and treated her like family. Over and over again the story showed everyone helping Peggy. Not one single time did it show her help a single soul or do a single thing for any of these incredible people... NOT ONCE! If you look up narcissist in the dictionary I’m sure Peggy’s picture is there. Mac deserved sooo much better! Keith did deserve Mac in his life though. It was so unbelievable that Mac saw his forever in that selfish, evil woman, that I have lost faith completely in this author. Ava Miles, do better!! At least let us like your characters. I'm so disappointed and not sure if I want to continue with the rest of the series. Wasted money for sure!
